Grammar school students show mental dexterity
Teaching those who follow in your footsteps is one lesson taught in high school. Students at Bishop George Ahr High School, Edison, demonstrated that knowledge first hand Nov. 8 when they hosted their school’s seventh annual Grammar School Competition.
Members of the Bishop Ahr Student Ambassador group and several teachers from the school collaborated to organize the event.
Seven Catholic grammars schools attended the competition, including St. Helena School and St. Matthew School, Edison; St. Michael School, Union; St. Matthias School, Somerset; St. James School, Woodbridge; St. Joseph School, Carteret, and St. Cecelia School, Iselin.
The opening ceremony for the competition included performances by the Bishop Ahr High School Band, choir, cheerleaders, and drama department.
The seven schools then competed in a variety of different areas of expertise challenging both their mental and creative abilities. Students faced-off in areas as diverse as athletics, drama, Jeopardy, and problem solving.
The overall winner was St Joseph School,Carteret. St. James School, Woodbridge, placed second and St. Matthais School, Somerset, rounded out the top three.
