Catholic radio station is a hidden gem

I am a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle in Old Bridge. Recently, I discovered that a Catholic radio station is now on the air, broadcasting around the clock, every day of the week, from Hazlet, N.J. at 89.3 FM.

Much of its programming is from EWTN Radio, including:

  • Father John Corapi. Powerful preaching/catechetical series (recordings of his conferences).
  • Father Benedict Groeschel. Live call-in. Pastoral/teaching.
  • Catholic Answers. Live call-in. Apologetics.
  • “Kresta” at Large. Interviews.
  • Scott Hahn. Scripture Matters. Exegesis.
  • Marcus Grodi. Journey Home. Interviews with Protestant minister converts.
  • Stephanie Woods. Next Wave. Young adult. Guests, music.
  • Catholic Jukebox. Young Catholic songwriters and musicians.
  • Family Theatre. Father Peyton’s radio dramas from the 1940’s.

Other programming is local, produced by the Jim and Cheryl Manfredonia, the couple who started this station in September. Jim hosts talk shows, with a mix of prayer, news, teaching, interview and call-ins. He’s been doing this for 10 years in Philadelphia and is very good at it. Cheryl hosts music shows. She is a musician, teacher and music historian.

The Manfredonias have a devotion to Archbishop Fulton Sheen. They are broadcasting something very unusual: a 50-part catechetical series of Sheen’s that apparently hasn’t been heard since the 1950’s.

And, not the least, they broadcast Metuchen’s own Proclaim the Good News, hosted by Father Jay Toborowski.

I encourage you to listen to this marvelous radio station! When you do, I am sure you will get much out of it for yourself, and will see that it has great pastoral benefits.

This radio apostolate deserves a notice in parish bulletins every week, at least until the station becomes well known.

This station sells no advertising; it is listener-supported. But people can’t support it, if they don’t know about it. Let’s help.
