William J. Nagle, Jr., 89

A funeral Mass was celebrated May 27 in St. Lawrence Church, Laurence Harbor, for William J. Nagle, Jr., father of Lawrence Nagle, director of the diocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection.

Nagle died May 23 at home at age 89.

Born in South Amboy, he lived there and in the Morgan section of Sayreville for most of his life.

Upon retirement he often traveled to New Port Richey, Fla. with his wife, the late Vivien A. Nagle.

Nagle served as a special agent with the federal intelligence division of the Internal Revenue Service, Newark. He was later employed in the same capacity by the State of New Jersey.

He attended Pace University, New York City, and Seton Hall University, South Orange.

Nagle was an Army staff sergeant during World War II. During his tour of duty in Italy and North Africa, he was cited for meritorious service by his commanding officer, Willis J. Filiatreault.

Nagle was especially fond of his hometown, South Amboy, and of all things Irish.

He is predeceased by his wife, Vivien, and his sister Marie Ellison. Nagle is survived by two sons, Thomas Nagle and his wife MAarsha, of Morgan, and Lawrence Nagle and his wife, Joanne, of South Amboy; a daughter, Karen Palma of South Amboy; a sister, Kathleen Jankowski of South Amboy; four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michael and Daniel Nagle and Rudy Palma; and three great-grandchildren, Kayley, Connor and Ryan.

Arrangements were made by the Gundrum Funeral Home, South Amboy.

Interment will be in the Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy.
