Catholic Schools Week celebrated across diocese

For Catholic Schools Week, Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski kicked off the first day of class by visiting Saints Philip and James School, Phillipsburg, and Immaculate Conception School, Annandale, Jan. 29.

In honor of the bishop’s visit, Saints Philip and James School declared it to be “Bishop Bootkoski Appreciation Day.” The bishop was greeted by students who led him through the school, where he visited each classroom. Students in each class showed Bishop Bootkoski the projects that they had been working on for Catholic Schools Week, while student photographers captured the events on film to later create a “memory book” of the bishop’s visit.

After leaving Saints Philip and James, the bishop traveled to Immaculate Conception. It was his first visit to the school since dedicating the building when it was constructed in 2002. Bishop Bootkoski toured the school and visited classrooms, where the children had decorated their doors for Catholic Schools Week. During the time of the bishop’s visit, parents also visited the school to have lunch with their children, allowing Bishop Bootkoski an opportunity to speak with both students at the school and their parents.

At press time, the bishop planned to continue celebrating Catholic Schools Week Jan. 31 by visiting Sacred Heart School, South Amboy, and Our Lady of Fatima School, Piscataway.
