Adoph Uhrig, father of Father A. Gregory Uhrig

Father A. Gregory Uhrig, parochial vicar of St. Matthew the Apostle Parish, Edison, celebrated a funeral Mass Feb. 28 at St. Peter Parish, Reading, Pa., for his father Adolph Uhrig. Uhrig died Feb. 24 of natural causes in Reading Hospital at age 85.

Born Nov. 28, 1921 in Cranston, R.I., he was the son of the late Adolph Sr., and Flora (Dunst) Uhrig.

As a graduate of New York Brewers Academy, Uhrig was a brew master at the Reading Brewery for 25 years; he retired in 1976.

He also served as an RM3 in the Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

Uhrig was an active member of St. Peter Parish, Reading.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (O’Kane) Uhrig; four sons, Father A. Gregory Uhrig, Joseph Uhrig of Shillington, Pa., Timothy Uhrig of Pottstown, Pa., and Jonathan Uhrig of Houston, Texas. Uhrig is also survived by five daughters, Mary Uhrig of Wyomissing, Pa., Rose Anne Uhrig of Mount Penn, Pa., Ellen Bricker of Reading, Theresa Kurkiewicz of Milwaukee, Wis., and Lisa Shepard of Falls Church, Va; and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, William Uhrig and Adrian Uhrig.

Burial was at Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township, Pa. Arrangements were made by John P. Feeney Funeral Home, Reading. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Parish, 322 S. Fifth St., Reading, PA 19602.
